Hikoi ki a Hukanui Marae

On a bright sunny Monday morning, Hamilton East school took a trip to Hukanui Marae.
Learners, teachers and whānau were welcomed in to the marae with a traditional powhiri.
We then got a chance to sit in the wharenui (Tuturuapapa) and hear some of the history of the marae.
Following that we sketched some of the sights of the marae that we found interesting.

The Cool Bean.

This week for Play, Make, Create our book was “The Cool Bean” by Jory John. Learners decided the moral of the story was its cool to be yourself and that it’s cool to be kind. They had a fantastic time making and creating and exploring the dress ups that were part of the book provocation. https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1GCp56Qjagt3jytP4DcnylZYJj-QhHNQUhttps://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1ScqJdOv-p6pjs_cD7sow8ne7C5adg03Hhttps://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1RFu2w5R_Q8bToZeMGSX8sx_Yc8V4GwHRhttps://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1F9w4wEKejm9oJUNCkAijV5cJCFSSXyAFhttps://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1Z6EbHGoLvH9aPndoqgM398Y37VRsgfp-https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1sR5jUhilun8mdWuf4_myBw0qnOtqY_pDhttps://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1L0LsWY9VUhvckFnUkyIZohd87GY5iW0Dhttps://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1v8F63a_mYA6pudrVtVxcXtR5CsAl5TfLhttps://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1At5bF_dHA0gDtlunrgs_kQthr9lnaIHchttps://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1DwJ9WxHNQdi6WTNIowvgDT1lTV3Z1HRAhttps://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1Bku2le61vI859OxQRMJC8FqREqAxQWPJhttps://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1WPiVHy2FGz-XaIspByjpvEcV1Sdjxgx3

Kahuku

Amelia bought in two chrysalis and a butterfly for Akomanga 16 to observe. We have watched them hatch and we ever able to hold them before they were ready to fly. The class have learned about how long it takes for a caterpillar to weave its cocoon, how long they stay in the chrysalis for and what butterflies need to survive. https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1md5laU4GGwAP4pSntZHysLVWnnj6Fervhttps://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1OlXVjmHRCk369vizcCq40FkAhJQ3vTzchttps://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1IACLIlamDu0Qs76erpkUcNdXGl_Bgw3Dhttps://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=17K8EKBRy22ZuJo8XKf3oATKEm8C04w4Ihttps://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1lDAMQ_x67Ac-u2a6VsoZCu5-DiKe_TRThttps://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=14nINgnWbmuRFZ8F5uL631teaY6PX9werhttps://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1rHJ64PunRH7L_yGl4SgaYjIF1Vce91nW

Ko wai au? Who am I?

As part of our inquiry unit and focus on Turangawaewae the learners of Room 16 have been making self portraits to be displayed in the classroom.

Learners sketched themselves using a mirror and then outlined in sharpie. Next they chose two colours to paint with, focusing on long smooth brush strokes. Lastly they added vinyl dots to highlight certain areas.

Our inspiration for this are was Roy Lichtenstein. Check out his work and tell us how we did! https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1e4-hkc7Z9x8gh1AlOH4t_jKNB5eselEghttps://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1GwQ3GPxQDHYtt4hfWCCLtYSDXLWHSuBihttps://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1eZSztfNMB8jaJwUiiPl6-AGnFv-spDrkhttps://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1SMGx6v4FF5YYeTuA4L8TVXs-RqvIe-06https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=11KkXQ2W6UPFqUof7SaKFEVeUoe3jydCmhttps://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1RRgGEoZO3F-_vGNHdXYH7rCAk9B0xpfHhttps://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1TFWs8EoiC0YsPSXKSy0hGG4XgQSkHk6Nhttps://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1xF5R3ntFxYUM8XO5Nploaji6yR6TcQeA

Welcome to Akomanga 16

 Kia ora ngā whānau,

Welcome to Room 16! I am so looking forward to getting to know your beautiful children this year. We had a great start yesterday, learning about each other and some of our favourite things. We took a walk around the school and sketched the beautiful oak tree. The learners have already shown how great they are at sketching, using their "look, draw, look" skills.

Play, Make, Create

A couple of weeks ago the teachers from Tōtara attended a Play, Make, Create workshop. We came away with lots of fresh ideas and inspiration. Following this the focus in room 19 has been construction and technological process. Here are some of the class learning how to create paper construction that lasts without the aid of hot glue. https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1bUCoE2hw0jZ1-hxPxJUqulFMeGeHIVi7https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=13ENhFEfGh7-Jhb4HpXeSCrBt44A-HFSdhttps://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=190fr0LLzCdhc7IBqI8bNQNAwbQobVwjthttps://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=10hq9IrpOBUEh5OJFronpdDFJl4zemqO1https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1qFOpg8v2istjddx5_BOjblyDNiI2wYJe
