School Kit

A great programme we have use at Hamilton East School is School Kit. And now, we are lucky enough to have School Kit at home, where parents and educators can go each day to find new ideas for learning and exploration.

If you would like to join through facebook, here is the Link

Monday 23rd August 2021

TALK: Why would anyone need to write with invisible ink? What would they be writing? Who would need invisible ink? What sort of message would you write? Who would it be to?
DO: Make your own invisible ink message.
You are a Secret Agent with a very important message. Write a letter with your own invisible ink. Use a lemon and a paintbrush or cotton bud etc. Get someone at home to help reveal your secret message. Don't have a lemon? Try some other liquids at home and see if you get the same result.

Friday 17th April

WATCH: Phillip Halsman was a famous portrait photographer from the olden days. At the end of every formal portrait Halsman would ask his subjects to jump. Look at the photos below from Phillip Halseman of people jumping.
TALK: Phillip believed "When you ask a person to jump, his attention is mostly directed toward the act of jumping and the mask falls so that the real person appears". Do you think this is true.
DO: Test Phillip's theory. Grab a phone and get people in your bubble to jump. There is one rule - your photo must be mid-jump. They have to have their photo with no feet touching the ground - no excuses. Look at your photos. Is Phillip Halsman's theory correct?

Tuesday 7th April

WATCH: This important announcement from our Prime Minister,
, regarding the Tooth Fairy and the Easter Bunny
TALK: Where have you been going for your daily walks? Have you been doing the Bear Hunt? Which houses do you think you will see the easter eggs in. Do you think there will be more Easter Eggs than there were bears?
DO: We said we wouldn't offer any colouring in pages in this facebook group unless there was an exceptional reason. This is definitely it - download the PM's Easter Egg sheet and decorate with your fanciest colouring in. Place your eggs in your windows so that others can see them.
Share photos of your eggs online with #NZEggHunt.
When you are out on your walks this week make a tally chart of the number of eggs in your community Egg Hunt. Draw a map of where you walk and place a symbol wherever you see an egg.

Friday 27th March

WATCH: Any of the Incredibox demos - they might take a while to load but believe me this is worth it. Find the demo page here https://www.incredibox.com/demo/

TALK: About what style of music each person in your family likes. Each person gets to play their favourite song of all time. Zoom or call other people in your whānau and get them to name their favourite song.
DO: Make a Spotify playlist of everybody's favourite songs and give it a title. Then...let's be honest, get yourself back to Incredibox and 'pump it up and chill' .

Thursday 26th March

WATCH: LEGO Waffles & Coffee (make sure the sound is on because it weirdly makes the whole thing more real with the sound.
TALK: About the most delicious breakfast feast you could ever imagine. Make a list of all the things that would be in your imaginary feast of deliciousness.
DO: Create each item on your breakfast feast list. The only rule? Your items can’t be made out of food - you can use play dough, lego, paper, papier mache, leaves, stickers, mud, wood - whatever. Sculpt it, build it, draw it, mix it, stack it, layer it - whatever you need to do to create your perfect breakfast feast.
Don’t forget to fake eat your fake breakfast when you’re done.

Wednesday 25th March

WATCH: It's All Family. Go on, watch it a couple of times - it's pretty damn catchy.
TALK: About all the different types of people in your family - face time some of your family members and make the biggest list you can of all the family members you know of. Don't forget your pets. Can you find the names of people in your family from he olden days?
DO: Draw pictures of each of the family members on your list and then use a device in your home to make a new video to go with the It's all Family soundtrack (you might have to just play it in the background). Make sure to share your new video with anyone that helped you out.
As an extra we definitely recommend Watch the full Right on Tracks Playlist promoting diversity and inclusion here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLq_oyKAUI5M_KSvG803Qd8ew53Uh-Y8LM
