Welcome to Akomanga 16's blog. We are a class of year 3 and 4 learners at Hamilton East School, New Zealand. Room 16 are developing skills to become life long learners. They will experience opportunities to teach, learn and practise.

Term 4 2021
Chapter Chat: The Night Bus Hero.
For the beginning of Term Four we will be following along with Chapter Chat. This term the book we are reading is Onjali Ruaf's "The Night Bus Hero".
Each week there will be tasks that learners can choose to complete, depending on what they are interested in doing and questions that they can answer in regards to the chapters that are read. These questions will be posted as a Seesaw activity and learners can record their answers and post them to their Seesaw journal.
TASKS:
1. Draw a picture of one of the following…
- The snakes in the soup bowl
- Hector
- Will
- The old trolley man
- Hector dressed up in a hoodie and eye mask.
2. Create the note with Mrs Vergara's bottom on fire and the words 'How the great fire of London started'.
3. Hector and his friends are bullies. Make an anti-bullying poster. In your poster you may like to include:
- A definition of what bullying is
- Why bullying is a big problem
- Why bullying needs to stop
- How to recognise if someone is being bullied
- How you and others can help each other to put a stop to it
4. Draw Hector's comic strip of him getting the trolley man back.
5. Start a character list with all the characters from the story. Make sure you write a brief description about each character. Add to it as the story goes along.
6. RESEARCH - The kids in class were learning about the great fire of London. Research it and present your findings in a poster.
7. WRITING - The author has used lots of fantastic similes in the story. Make a list of all the similes you can find. See if you can write some of your own similes about things that have happened in the story.
8. HANDS ON - Make your own Hercules's eye mask.

10. MINECRAFT - Create the old man's trolley
QUESTIONS:
1. Can you please share any tasks that you have completed this week. Try and leave a reply on someone else's creation.
2. Why did Hector drop the two rubber snakes into the soup bowl?
3. Why did Mrs Vergara give Hector detention? Did he deserve it?
4. What are brainiacs and teacher's pets? Do you believe every class has them?
5. What does Hector think of detention? What does he do in detention? Does Hector have any talents?
6. What were Hector's friends like? Why did he like them?
7. What did Hector do to the old trolley man when he first met him? How did the old man defend himself?
8. How did Hector get revenge on the old trolley man? Would you tell on him if you saw what he did?
9. Why do you think Hector and his friends treat the homeless man badly? What do you think it would be like to be homeless?
10. Make a prediction, what do you think will happen next?

Each week there will be tasks that learners can choose to complete, depending on what they are interested in doing and questions that they can answer in regards to the chapters that are read. These questions will be posted as a Seesaw activity and learners can record their answers and post them to their Seesaw journal.

TASKS - Choose from the following:
1. ART - Draw a picture of Fudge's X-Ray at the hospital. Or draw a picture of Fudge on the Toddle-Bike. Or draw Peter's new pet.
2. Make or draw a headstone for Dribble the turtle.
3. Look up the song 'I Know an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly'. Make up your own version entitled 'I Know a Small Kid Who Swallowed a Turtle'.
4. ICT - Make a short movie commercial to advertise Toddle-Bikes.
5. Recreate the last scene of the book where Peter gets a surprise present. Can you use your own pet? If not use the puppet pals app.
6. WRITING - Place yourself in the shoes of one of the characters in the story. Write a diary entry from a key moment in the book.
8. HANDS-ON - Make some home baking to give to the doctors and nurses who looked after Fudge in hospital.

6. WRITING - Create any type of poem about one of the characters in the story.
7. RESEARCH - Research Turtles. Create a poster with 10 facts about turtles.
8. HANDS-ON - Can you make a birthday cake for Fudge's party?

TWITTER CHAT QUESTIONS

4. ICT - Fudge loves socks. Use the Sock Puppet app to create a conversation from the story.
5. WRITING - Fudge wants a dog or a bird. Select an animal you would like and write a letter to your parents asking for it.
6. RESEARCH - Research New York City! What famous landmarks has New York City got? Present your findings in a poster or slideshow.
8. FLIPGRID - Fudge is a very fussy eater. What are your favourite foods? Least favourite foods? Who does all the cooking in your household? Are they good at cooking?
